Finally, after 365 days, it’s again the most wonderful time of the year. That’s right, it’s time once more for us to share what we’ve been up to all year, and yes, you guessed it, we’ve been stalking Instagram.
We’ll be the first to admit that we’re Instagram fiends, as it’s often where we meet fellow food and fashion obsessors. Instagram helps us discover new foods to eat, new things to wear, and new ways to make us wanna eat our clothes and wear our food. So if your feed is starting to feel a little 2014 and you’re looking for some new inspiration, check out our favorite Instagrammers from the past year and be sure to give them a follow.
This LA based photographer snaps colorful and poppy images but gives them a seriously whimsical (is that an oxymoron?) edge. She’s got a knack for making normal things look bizarre and we love that she’s not afraid to be a little wacky.
Minimalist, geometric, and neon. Sound like every ‘grammer you’ve ever seen? Yes…but Teklan takes the bright minimalist aesthetic further, doing things with color we’ve never seen like making a stark blue building look like the next pool you need to jump into.
In his feature on Instagram last week the man behind SeriousDesign was quoted as trying to elicit a “reaction of delightful disgust” with his photos. We sure feel more delighted than disgusted by his pairings of food with non-food items, but you’ll have to decide for yourself. His instas are out there, and whether you love ‘em or hate ‘em, they’ll definitely make you look.
An online magazine featuring various young artists, Mewomag’s account is as eccentric as some of the artists it features. Their style is impossible to categorize so we never know what they’ll post next, but that’s why we love them and that’s why you’ll love them. Give them a follow if you’re looking for some surprises in your feed.
Chloe is a Canadian artist living in Brooklyn who’s taking the art world by storm. She’s satirical, she’s bold, and she’s unapologetic. She’s not afraid to make a series based on nipples or tampons, and her Instagram is right up our alley. Not only is it hilarious, but there are enough bagel bags (the picture above is a piece called “bagel no.5”) and bacon art to win our hearts.
Laura Miller is our kind of healthy food advocate because she’s all about keeping food fun and funny, even when it’s raw. She’s got a web series and is writing a cookbook on raw foods, her mantra is RAW, VEGAN, NOT GROSS, and she’s on a mission to show the world that raw food can be cool too. We think she’s killing it.
OMG we’re LITERALLY LOLLING so hard right now because this is the funniest account we’ve seen in a while. You’ll LOL too just as long as you can handle pictures of a fake skeleton and someone calling you out for those girly things you know you do. Like omg I can’t even believe Skellie was talking sh*% about me last night, that bitch.
Scroll down on her feed and you’ll find what makes this ‘grammer one to follow – her stop motion videos. They’re quirky and clever and they never fail to put a smile on our faces, so we’re guessing they’ll do the same to yours.
You’re probably already following this account, and if not then it’s time to get with the program. His grams are everything you’d expect from a food photographer for The New York Times, Food&Wine, Eater, and Punch, and if that’s not enough to convince you (which would be crazy) he also does landscapes that make you wonder if he’s even on planet Earth.
A style account that’s got everything we love about fashion. Blunt and bright, their style is simple and classic 90% of the time and then every so often they hit us with a dose of ‘what the f*ck is she wearing?’ and we love it. It’s the perfect balance if you ask us and we suggest you follow along.
Food writer and stylist, Ashley Marti makes healthy food look really freaking good. She does lots of ariel pics of produce and she’s certainly a supporter for the motion to put an egg on everything. We’re behind that motion too and we’re definitely behind Ashley’s instas.
Trends on trends does what so many Instagrammers aim to do – make a doughnut and a cup of coffee look as gorgeous as a freaking Picasso and as gourmet as a Michelin star meal. This account has stunningly gorgeous food pics and features up and coming chefs, so it’s definitely worth a follow.
We wish we could just read her blog, but it’s in French and we definitely don’t speak French. So instead we stick to Pauline’s Instagram which has all the same fashion shots, NYC city shots, and Brooklyn brunch shots without all the French, so it works out nicely for us.
This account from a store in Chelsea (and online…don’t worry) has everything we could ever want from an Instagram account all wrapped up in one. Style, food, and travel shots to satisfy our wanderlust, whoever manages this account is all about the good things in life.
Ilse Valfre says she tries to “capture the essence of what it feels like to be a girl” with her designs, but from the looks of her Instagram it’s clear she’s no ordinary girl. We’d like to think we’re not ordinary girls either, so naturally we love her account.
An artist, furniture designer, and spatial designer from Sweden, this girl’s Instagram showcases all her latest projects. Her work is bold, often strange and will make you want to redecorate your entire apartment. But you probably shouldn’t since who are you kidding, you don’t’ have Anny’s skills.
She loves neon yellow and glitter, so obviously we’re on board. This Australian designer is awesome but kind of makes us jealous, because we feel like she’s always having just a little bit more fun than everyone else. Plus, in Western Aus it’s always warm enough to wear a bikini and she never lets you forget it. Damn you, Poppy, can we just be you?
Meagan’s video Instas make her account unique, but honestly we love everything she posts. Follow for pics and vids that are quirky, fun, and at the very least will brighten your day.
If Lee can do one thing, it’s make breakfast. We’ve featured her breakfasts before (here and here), and we never knew you could be so good at putting goji berries, hemp seeds, and bananas in a bowl. Turns out you can, so props, Lee, for being the best breakfast ‘grammer we know.
We’re not ashamed to admit that we love some good nail art, and Sonya is our go-to nail artist ‘grammer. Her instas are, like many of our faves, bold, neon and a little out there, but she holds a special place in our hearts because of her affection for pineapples. We’re with ya, Sonya.
Monling is all about color, and her photos combine her personal style with the architecture of DC. The combo makes for some of the most eye-catching images we’ve ever seen, and it’s safe to say her primary colored outfits have jumped right off the screen and into our hearts.
Jasmine Climent is self proclaimed “dark, brooding, and sweet as hell,” and there’s no better way to describe her account. She got an affection for the gloomy, but bursts of red in her black and white instas make for shots that ooze a sultry mood.
It’s no secret that we love fruit, but we particularly love fruit for a cause. This account uses melons and art to support awareness for traumatic brain injury, and trust us, their snaps are just as awesome as the cause they’re working for.
A magazine whose content is so diverse we can’t even explain it in this three sentence blurb, La Monda’s insta account is similarly all over the map. They’re not afraid to push the envelope or pair totally weird and gross things together. It sometimes makes us uncomfortable which is why we love it so much.
Editor for Allure Magazine, Lauren Caruso’s life seems to have been designed for Instagram. It appears to consist of trips to Paris, sauntering in the streets wearing beautiful clothes, and remaining gorgeous despite indulgent brunches on the daily. We’re jealous, yes, but we can’t stop looking.
A self proclaimed “style narcissist,” Jaclyn invites you to follow her in her daily NYC doings. We have to agree that she needs to be followed, both because of her style and because she’s always eating what we wish we were eating at some of our favorite spots in the city. Plus she has an insanely cute dog who we like to look at pictures of too.
This style blogger is from Puerto Rico and lives in Miami, so she’s our go-to girl when it gets a bit dark and gloomy here in New York. Her looks might be seem classic at first, but the Miami heat always sneaks in making her feed fierce and fiery, and making us wish we were there.
Photographer doing mostly portraits, this guy’s Instagram proves that he’s totally fearless. He’s a statement maker whose photos can merit some seriously strong reactions, and for that we applaud him. We love a guy who’s not afraid to be a little dirty and a lot daring.
Yes, it’s true that we’re biased toward our photographers, but it’s also true that we’ve got some incredibly talented people on our team whose Instagram accounts deserve a follow. Daniela captures food and fashion (duh) as well as snapshots of our glorious city.
Another of our own and another testament to our impeccable taste. Vanessa’s stark images capture the streets and the street style of New York and make them look damn good.
And the Instagrammy goes to…you guessed it, us! No, we’re not that narcissistic, but we do think we know how to make a good Insta. If you like food and fashion you’ll probably like our account, but aren’t you following us already? If not that’s okay, we won’t tell anyone. But get on it and enjoy a daily dose of deliciousness.
Left wanting more? Make sure to give our 2014 nominees a follow, then head to these 16 restaurant accounts, followed by these 7 accounts that made an appearance halfway through the year because they were that good. We weren’t lying, we really like Instagram.
