Boss Babes: Fall Workwear With Club Monaco

Remember the days of shoulder-padded blazers and just-above-the-ankle skirts? Back in the ’80s and early ’90s, women’s workwear was structured to emulate men’s style to emphasize a tough, masculine approach when it came to their careers. But, over time, this sartorial trend slowly died as women began to break the glass ceiling by proving time and time again that an idea is never too small or a goal is never too high —  with a feminine touch, of course.

To celebrate the growth of women’s office fashion (and their badass careers), we partnered with Club Monaco to showcase three Boss Babes, who are in completely different fields, to ask them about their fail-proof outfits, how they prepare for a work week, and what their definition of a power suit is all while wearing swoon-worthy work-inspired ensembles themselves.

When it comes to design, Jasmine Garnsworthy knows what’s up. Her customizable beauty oil brand, The Buff, is drop dead gorgeous and perfect to gift for any skin care enthusiast. While the aesthetic of her beauty line is clean and bright, her own style perfectly complements her company’s brand thanks to her work wardrobe like chunky heels and off-the-shoulder dresses.

Favorite day of the week?

Monday.

Podcasts, always. I listen to How I Built This, Conversations With Richard Fidler, The Pitch, Up First, and Project Entrepreneur.

Fail-proof outfit?

A cotton wrap dress, cat-eye sunglasses, slides.

What are some of your M-F essentials?

I’ve never worked in a corporate environment (except for a blink-and-you-miss-it internship), and my weekday wardrobe definitely reflects that. There’s no real difference between what I style for a day at the office and what gets thrown on for the weekend. I love jumpsuits, lightweight linen dresses, wide-legged pants with crop tops, chunky heels, and fine jewelry.

How do you prepare for the start of a new work week?

Since quitting my job as an editor to become a freelancer writer and start The Buff, there hasn’t been a lot of down time, so the lines have seriously blurred between week and weekend. But, I’m a big fan of list-making on any day. I try to tick off small admin tasks and respond to ignored emails on Sunday afternoon so that I can tackle the big stuff without distraction on Mondays.

What’s your definition of a “power suit”?

The only suit I actually own is pink, and I love it. Although, it’s normally a killer dress or tailored jumpsuit that makes me feel like a boss.

The most transitional piece in your closet right now?

A pair of powder pink shoes. They’re the right color for the final days of summer, but enclosed with a chunky sole—so will be super useful during fall.

Our very own Boss Babe-in-Chief, Cyndi Ramirez-Fulton, is no stranger when it comes to trying new trends and making them work into her already kick-ass wardrobe. Between Chillhouse and Taste The Style (hi!), Cyndi usually gravitates towards a relaxed-yet-stylish aesthetic for work. You can usually find Ramirez-Fulton wearing ripped boyfriend jeans, a wide-brimmed hat, or a silky little number like the dress below.

What are some go-to tips for taking your outfit from day to night?

Jennifer Plotnick is reimagining the dental industry with one Instagram picture at a time. In addition to her routine teeth cleanings and check ups, she creatively conceptualizes the overall brand and feel of her Williamsburg’s dentist office, Grand Street Dental. While her office outfits usually involve scrubs, her Casual Friday ensembles are far from boring. Between touchable soft jumpsuits or high-waisted pants, you can easily find Plotnick leaving her office early in style.

What is a typical Friday office look for you?

I love jumpsuits for a casual Friday, they are comfortable yet sophisticated at the same time — and I can easily transfer the look from day to night.

Favorite place for a weekend getaway?

Friend’s house upstate.

A solution for when you want to be comfortable but still need to be professional?

I’m into matching tops and bottoms, and I’m a believer that nice shoes make an outfit. I’m always comfortable and always wear flats.

What are five items of clothing you always have in your carry-on?

Denim work shirt I bought upstate, linen oversized dress, black leather sandals, repurposed jeans, fitted T-shirts.
