Boss Babes: Meet Greta Titelman

Here at TTS, we believe the future is female. We’re inspired by women who are driven, passionate, and not afraid to kick some ass. But sometimes, we permit our inner lioness to be hit with an emotional road block. We begin to doubt ourselves, fuel our minds with negativity, and lose sight of our identities. We’re constantly taught to “fix” ourselves, instead of accepting that our faults and failures are a part of who we are to help us grow. Well, we say fuck it. It’s time to open the conversation and give ourselves the permission to love ourselves for who we are. With that in mind, it was SO refreshing to casually come across a women-centric podcast, called Lady Lovin, where three besties chat about relationships, health and everything in-between — because at the end of the day, we all should be humble, with just a hint of Kayne, amiright? And because our love for the podcast has become a full-blown obsession, it only made sense to connect with one of the fierce ladies behind it all.

While Greta Titelman — and her team of girlfriends, Lo Bosworth and Jilly Hendrix — created Lady Lovin’ after when Bosworth was approached to begin a podcast, Titelman has been a force to be wrecked with long before this one-of-a-kind podcast came to fruition. This boss babe is a comedic writer who has a monthly show at The Jane Hotel called ‘Room Service’ and has a her own series on YouTube called Internal Thoughts. Now, she recently just completed a short film called With You and, of course, is killing it on Lady Lovin. Titelman’s wits and charm is nothing short of amazing and we couldn’t be more ecstatic to show a little lovin’ to this hilarious lady (see what we did there?).

We had the pleasure of hanging out at Greta’s Nolita apartment where we chatted about the podcast, her current projects and where she hopes to see herself in the next five years? Introducing the funniest Boss Babe we know, Greta Titelman.

Tell us a little about yourself and what your day-to-day is like?

I wake up every morning around eight and say a morning prayer that I get to go to the bathroom — cause this makes or breaks my day. Then, I get up, brush my teeth and put my pants on and meet my sister in the living room to walk our dog Bernie and get coffee. We chat about our weird dreams and oodle our dog whilst sipping coffee — I cherish this ritual. As we mozy back to our house, I make a checklist in my brain of all of the things I need to get done in my day – that goes something like this: get home, put on workout clothes, actually work out, eat food, shower, go to audition (if I have one) record a podcast, daydream, record a character, walk Bernie, free write, call someone, edit a video, write some more, keep writing. Since I am my own boss, my productivity is on me, so I try to treat myself as if I were working in an office with a terrifying boss who would yell at me if I didn’t get everything done. All of this takes me from 9-6 p.m. Usually around this time, I decide to wind down for a moment before I head out for the evening.

Unlike most people, my “work” day never really stops since my nights are also consumed with comedy. Whether it’s a show I’m on, a show I’m attending, or an open mic, there’s always something. I mostly just feel so lucky that I get to be a part of the comedy community. I have met so many brilliant people and have made so many incredible friends that I really don’t know where I would be without them. This sounds cheesy, but all of this has really allowed me to explore myself and accept me for me.

You created a rad podcast called Lady Lovin with Jilly Hendrix and Lo Bosworth. Tell us what the podcast is about and how you guys came up with it?

Well Jilly, Lo and I were big fans of sitting around chatting with each other and then, like a sign from the heaven’s above, Lo was approached to start a podcast and she was like, “Hey guys we have great convos, want to have a podcast together?” and Jilly and I said “YES!” then we all put our hands together and the power of love blew up and became LADY LOVIN! Lady Lovin is really about empowering women to embrace all of the magic that is being a WOMAN! We like to cover a wide variety of topics from women’s health, to starting your own business, to sex and relationships etc… I just love being a woman and love being able to talk about it :).

It seems like podcasts have really taken off recently, why do you feel like this “radio” medium has resurfaced and gained popularity?

Talk “radio” is super therapeutic and easy to listen to. You don’t need to be staring at a screen to pay attention and follow along. Radio has always been popular, I just think like all good things, it is coming back into style and people are remembering how entertaining and informative radio shows can be. They can really make you feel like you are in a room with your friends or in a classroom listening and learning about things you never knew. I love them!

Best way to spend a girls’ night out?

Eating a really delicious dinner with great conversation and a lot of laughs.

If you could have a dream guest of Lady Lovin, dead or alive, who would that be and what would you guys talk about?

Dame Judi Dench, Grace Jones, Stevie Nicks, Mo’Nique, Amy Sedaris, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, my mom and grandma — we would talk about being WOMEN.

Being a comedian in NYC means you probably have some crazy stories. What would you say is the craziest thing you’ve ever experience while you were on stage?

An older woman sitting in the front row was trying to sell me Molly… I admired her business brain.

In addition to Lady Lovin, you also host a monthly show at the Jane Hotel called ‘Room Service.’ What can we expect from the show and how can we get tickets?

No tickets — just come! Expect to laugh a lot and to feel lucky to live in such an incredible place like New York City where you can see some of the best performers on EARTH for FREE in a HOTEL in MANHATTAN!!! The SECOND WEDNESDAY of every month (NOV. 9!).

Besides Lady Lovin’ and Room Service, are you currently working on any other projects that we should know about?

I just finished a short film that I co-created with Caroline Lindy (another Boss Babe!) titled With You that is being submitted to a bunch of festivals and will be hosting a screening of it sometime in the new year! Oh! And my two favorite characters Gregory and #gossipmag on my Instagram @gertiebird!

Where do you hope to see yourself in the next five years?

On a screen bigger than my iPhone.

Any advice for future Boss Babes, especially those wanting to start a podcast?

Be confident in yourself and JUST DO IT! Get a recorder. Record it. Submit to iTunes and don’t stop!
