What do you do when your heart is being pulled in every direction possible? You can’t seem to pick one thing to love, because your passion rivers through multiple career paths that choosing just one to do for the rest of your life just feels impossible. But what can you do? Do you just succumb to normality and follow the path that everyone else chooses to take? Or do you jump out of line and create the life that you knew you were supposed to have? Today’s Boss Babe is doing the latter — she’s taking her life into her own hands. She didn’t believe that she should only have to satisfy one of her dreams because she knew she could accomplish them all — and that’s exactly what she’s doing.
Pamela Katz is the type of friend you want to hang out with when you know you want to have a good time. Her wild spirit is fluid and makes you want to have a mini dance party every time you see her. After graduating college, Katz returned to NYC to conquer her dreams. Not only has she modeled for companies such as Glossier, but she also became a freelance fashion assistant and DJ, where she has had the opportunity to showcase her skills at some of the coolest events in NYC. Even though Pamela has already accomplished so much as such a young age, we really don’t believe she will be slowing down anytime soon — and we’re totally okay with that.
We had the pleasure of hanging out with Pamela (and her adorable Bulldog) at her kick-ass Cooper Square loft where we chatted about her career, whether she prefers Kanye or Kendrick, and what she plans to do in the future. Meet your next BFF, Pamela Katz.
Melville, New York
Album you’re currently obsessing over:
Guilty pleasure you’re kind of afraid to admit:
Buying/trying different brands of shampoo’s and conditioners on the regular. I love testing out how they make my hair dry. It’s a slight obsession.
Accessory you think every woman should have in her closet:
NYC restaurant you’ve been meaning to check out:
Describe your style in 3 words:
Clean, classic, cool.
Go-to cocktail after a long day:
Glass of my favorite red wine, Meoimi.
Kanye or Kendrick Llamar?
Next place you want to travel to domestically?
You’re a complete all-star because not only do you DJ, you’re also a freelance fashion assistant and you also model. Can you tell us the steps you took to get to this point and what your day-to-day is like?
Steps I took to get here: Trusted my gut, met the right people by being friendly to all and meeting a new friend every day. My day to day starts with a hot almond milk latte at La Colombe. I go there to respond to any emails and send out some. Then I usually hit a hot yoga class at 7. Since every day is really different, a productive day for me is usually going to castings and meetings after my workout. Then I grab dinner with my fiancé before I head out to DJ an event. If I am not DJing an event, I try to just attend one!
You have accomplished so much at such a young age. What do you feel was the key factor that helped you stay focused to go after your dreams?
The key factor that helps me stay focused would be knowing my worth and knowing my self.
What’s your go-to attire when you’re DJing?
My go-to attire when DJing is usually something comfy but also off-beat. To me it’s taking my clean, classic, and cool style to the next level by incorporating one item that makes me feel a little more sexy or fun than usual.
Your hair is gorgeous, by the way. How do you maintain your beautiful mane and can you tell us any secrets?
My hair…ha. I feel like a hair guru sometimes. I don’t do anything to my hair! My secret to keeping my goldilocks long and healthy is simple. I shower with Kerastase L’Oreal shampoo and conditioner. After my shower, I put my hair in a bun and let it dry. Once it’s dry I take it out and that’s that. I like leaving my hair natural with cut, color, and style because I feel most myself that way!
How do you stay sane while juggling three different roles?
I stay sane juggling my 3 roles because as I always say, if I wasn’t doing it for work, I would be doing it for fun! Music, modeling, and styling are such a big part of the way I express myself. Modeling and styling are day time jobs and DJing is usually a night time role. It works in my favor.
Who is your Boss Babe role model that inspires you?
If this has to be someone who is a TTS Boss Babe, I’d just say Laura Polko because she is a hair stylist and anyone who has talent in the hair field is inspiring to me.
If not a TTS Boss Babe already, I am inspired by Laura Daley. She is a friend of mine who is one of the hardest workers I know. I respect her hard work and envy her contagious personality that gets her in the door wherever, whenever.
If you could DJ for anyone, anywhere, where and who would that be?
If I could DJ for anyone anywhere, I would probably want to DJ a party for Alexander Wang in Tokyo. Or a party for Ralph Lauren in Paris.
Any cool summer plans?
Summer plans are hopefully doing what I do today x 100. I plan to be extremely busy with my yoga, modeling, styling, DJing, and adding some side projects to the mix. I will be out east most of the summer.
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
In the next 5 years I see myself DJing for some big brands, meeting more inspiring people who I can climb the ladder with, and collaborating with the right people and brands in the right places and times. Getting married to the love of my life in Aspen. I am endlessly creating myself!
Any advice for future boss babes, especially those who want to freelance in NYC full-time?
Be nice to everyone, work hard, meet a new friend everyday, and answer the question before it’s asked!
