Another year, another fashion week comes to a close. As sad as we are, it’s a nice chance to step back and take a deep breath for the first time in a loooong time.
Hair is a very important part of a look. You can totally rock an outfit, but it’s nothing without an iconic hairstyle to tie the whole look together. We’re going to take you backstage with us and our friends over at Bumble and bumble to give you exclusive step by steps instructions on how to incorporate hairstyles from the shows that were featured in the top shows from this season. With styles ranging from carefree waves at Proenza Schouler to crimped hair with hella volume over at Ji Oh, you’re bound to find a look that best suits you.
So whip out your styling products, because you’re about to take it from the runway, and put it into your everyday.
The style: A bouncy, 2000s crimped-style at the bottom from weaving hair in bobby pins remaining smooth towards the roots with a prominent center part.
Saturate hair with Tonic and blow dry Thickening Full Form Mousse into hair. From mid-length to ends, section hair into small, figure-8 pin-curl sets and flat iron. Remove pins and brush hair to create the dual texture. Finish with Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Dry Oil Finishing Spray.
The style: A low bun with a very sharp triangle-shaped part.
The style: An awkward, geek-chic look inspired by “children getting into beauty products”. While this may not be a look you’d rock on the daily, it would be right up the alley of a Halloween costume look.
Create a deep side part and apply Bb.Curl Anti-Humidity Gel-Oil from roots to end, painting the Bb.Curl Gel-Oil on section by section. Take 3-4 sections at the side part and place them over the hair, creating graphic lines.”
Products Used: Bb.Curl Anti-Humidity Gel-Oil
The style: Look 1 is simply long hair sans-brushing and Look 2 is a simple chignon (small bun) and a hairband. Both looks require minimal product usage, so this is perfect for day 2 hair.
Look 1 – Long hair
Spray Thickening Hairspray throughout hair. Apply Brilliantine on the fingertips and rake through hair.
*Tip: Holli didn’t use a brush through the hair because she wanted the models to look boyish and less “done”
Look 2 – Headband with chignon
Spray thickening Hairspray and Surf Spray throughout to give the hair a light hold and grip. Apply a thick, fabric headband and position just behind the ears. Pull hair into a chignon (or small bun) in the back of the head and secure with a hook elastic. Pull pieces of hair out from around the band and the chignon to give the look a sporty, tougher feel. Finish with Strong Finish Hairspray.
The style: Tightly curled hair that is then brushed out to create more texture and volume. Feelin’ frizzy? Never fear: frizz is actually encouraged in this look. Don’t try to tame the wild beast, let it flow.
Spray dry hair with a generous amount of Surf Foam Spray Blow Dry and blow dry into hair. Curl-set hair with a 3/8” iron and brush out to create big texture and volume. Finish with Dryspun Finish and Strong Finish Hairspray (launching in October)
The style: There’s only two words you need to describe this look: simple and sleek. While showcasing a loose, straightened look, Gavriel is also bringing low ponytails back into action.
Blow dry hair with Thickening Hairspray for root direction and to add volume. Create a graphic center part and brush hair as you flat iron to create maximum shine. Some models received low ponytails, where the elastic was covered with a grosgrain ribbon and secured with double sided tapes (no bows or knots). Finish with Dry Oil Finishing Spray to enhance shine and eliminate any fly-aways.
The style: We’re going au natural with this look from Schouler. While three products are in use, this look doesn’t require the use of hair dryers, or flat irons, or curling irons…oh my!
Wash hair with Gentle Shampoo or Bb.Curl Shampoo, depending on hair texture. Let air dry. Finish with Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil to soften, smooth and reduce frizz.
