Comfort Food: NYC Spots to Hit When You’re Missing Home

No matter how old we get, the craving and longing for the food from our childhood never fades. Whether it’s your mom’s chicken pot pie or your dad’s signature pasta, you want it, and you want it now. However, chances are your parents aren’t down for the long flight to cook you a home cooked meal. So we picked out the perfect places (based on certain locations) to go if you’re feeling a little homesick and need some comfort food.

Lobster screams Northeast America, so where else would we send you to get your Lobster fix? Luke’s Lobster is not only delicious, but their story is nothing short of inspiring. Stick with the classic Lobster Roll, or go crazy and grab a Crab Grilled Cheese. Wash it all down with a Local Maine Brew, ensuring yourself a blast from the past.

We know the Midwest isn’t only Chicago, but this deep dish pizza at Emmett’s will have you thanking us for including it on this list. Opened in 2013 by a native Chicagoan, this Greenwich Village restaurant takes us back to our cozy Midwestern upbringings. If pizza isn’t for you, try the Char Dog à la Weiner Circle.

Los Tacos No. 1 was created by three close friends who missed the food of Mexico and Southern California, so this spot is perfect for all your homesick cravings. Grab a few tacos (we recommend the Adoba), the Especial (their signature fried Quesadilla #noms), and a classic Mexican Coca-Cola. Sit back, relax, and reminisce.
