Before I lived in New York, I really had no idea what dressing for “weather” meant. In Los Angeles, the weather is incredibly consistent and leaves little room for guessing, but in New York? Fuhgeddaboudit! The seasons feel like they change on an almost daily basis. One seasonal change is almost in place, though, and that’s the arrival of fall. With fall comes pumpkins, hoodies, and a good cozy drink, but it also comes with a brand new set of wardrobe requirements. We’ve detailed some of the pieces we believe can take you into fall as naturally as the leaves change color.
Nothing screams “I’m your perfect fall hoodie” more than this cropped hoodie from KITH. It’s made of a warm and cozy fleece and features a hood that’s perfect for fall showers, but its slight crop is what truly makes the hoodie a perfect fall staple. Pair it with some high-waisted jeans for class or a pair of sweats —either way, you’ll be happy you did.
For when the leaves really start to turn and you need a true dose of added warmth, head straight for this scarf and don’t look back. It’s soft, it’s durable, and it sincerely makes cold weather more bearable. Not only that, but it’s HUGE, so you can even pretend you have a little blanket with you wherever you go.
Track pants make for a perfect go-to staple this fall, and FILA’s nostalgic color blocking design just makes them that much better. If you haven’t discovered the beauty of the track pant yet, let me explain: when wearing them, it feels like you might as well be in sweats (because let’s face it, you might as well be), but because they’re quite trendy right now, no one will notice (unless the nostalgic color blocking makes a passerby long for the days of Full House and scrunchies, too).
It should go without saying that HEATTECH anything makes the cold winter air much less miserable, but Uniqlo’s gloves really are the best. Not only will they keep your hands warmer than any other pair of gloves out there (really, we challenge you to find warmer ones), but they’re also compatible with touch screens so you don’t have to rip them off for every text you get.
Your favorite ’70s-born sneaker just got a new twist, and we have to admit, it’s just perfect for fall. Rather than the classic white leather with red and blue detailing, this collab offers a more sophisticated and work-appropriate style featuring a suede upper with a snakeskin backtab and monochromatic colorways. With hues such as gray, blush, and light beige, these sneakers are a promising fall staple.
This relaxed fit trench coat is the perfect piece to round out any transitional wardrobe. While it’s not as heavy as any traditional coat, it offers some added warmth on chilly nights and can be added to literally any outfit you want — whether you want a hoodie, a sweater, or a simple button up underneath, it’s bound to look like you have your shit together. And did we mention it comes in Miranda Priestly’s favorite shade of blue?… Cerulean, to be exact.
That’s right, Acne Studios makes the list twice because their fall and winter accessories simply kill it, always. This beanie is basic, warm, comes in a variety of colors, and should most definitely be a staple in every fall closet. It also features Acne Studios’ signature not-s0-smiley face for a cheeky added touch.
Juicy might have had its comeback, but nothing beats this incredible velour jacket from KAPPA. Velour is perfect for fall point blank, and pairing this jacket with any T-shirt will give just the right amount of warmth. The best part about it is that it’s incredibly transitional, so whether you’re brunching or running errands, it’s a perfect go-to-grab-n-go jacket.
