Summer of Love: Date Outfits That’ll Make You Feel Like The Bachelorette

What happened to the summer fling? Lately, everyone I know has been obsessing over Jojo’s premeditated dating woes, and ogling a sexy lifeguard or fellow front-row aficionado in our spin class feels antiquated. Rightfully so, with Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, and Raya at our disposal. It’s only a matter of time before Pokémon Go! turns into a dating app. That’s why you should dress accordingly for the myriad of rendezvous you have lined up–confidence is sexy, whether you end up making out with someone new or blowing yourself a kiss in the mirror at the end of the night. Here’s what to wear, you catch.

Want to look like one of those people who’s magically always cold, even though you’re probably sweating your makeup off on an hourly basis? Throw a silky bomber over cutoffs or a skirt and a simple t-shirt. If you’re going somewhere air conditioned, it’ll keep you warm during that annoying transition from ninety degrees outside to sixty degrees inside with AC. Wear your jacket over your shoulders and leap dramatically through crosswalks if you think a street style photographer is nearby–that’ll really impress your date.

There’s a reason everyone and their mother are wearing slip dresses (with or without white t-shirts underneath) this summer. They’re easy and sexy, plain and simple (see Chiara Ferragni of The Blonde Salad above). Seriously, encourage your mom to pick up a slip dress like this gorgeous midi number if you don’t mind evoking Freaky Friday — it’ll turn heads no matter how old you are, and is guaranteed to help you feel fabulous whether you’re on date one or celebrating your one year anniversary. Stand out and stay cool by opting for a shorter dress. Add sneakers that feature street artist Invader’s design, and keep your feet happy.

No introduction is needed if you show up in a statement shirt. Add volume and impact to your look with major sleeves and strappy shoes (just watch your sleeves when you’re reaching for the guac). Create space between these pieces with a neutral skirt and accessories. A bold lip is absolutely necessary, though. All adventurous women do it.

Pair a sexy, stretchy mini skirt with a shirt that’ll make you look fabulous without cutting off your circulation as soon as you sit down. You can feast in comfort in this outfit, which is basically the same as falling in love.

Maybe it’s one of those days with a ninety-degree high and flash flood warning; maybe you don’t want to think about whether you’re going to shave your legs or not. Jeans are like that person whom things didn’t work out with but still remained a friend — they might not feel like an adventure, but they appreciate your butt, and you’ll always come back to them. Go for an embellished pair, slick bodysuit, belt, and festive mules* to keep things interesting.

*I know I keep telling you to wear mules, dear TTS readers, but there’s just so many fabulous pairs out there right now — they’re having a moment.

Someone set you up on this date and you couldn’t come up with a polite way to decline. Maybe you lingered too long chatting on Tinder before realizing the person you’re meeting is a self-described free spirit or they uploaded a selfie with a flower crown Snapchat filter (but you’re too much of a “mensch” to ghost). Point being: you might not want to be there, but you should still look like you do. This occasion calls for a jumpsuit — add a statement clutch, sleek sandals, optional underwear, and you’re ready for the shortest and most stylish coffee date of your life. Who knows? They might just surprise you, or at least compliment your outfit.

You dig this person. If they don’t already know that, they will after you seduce them with your wit, effervescent beauty, and these Baron Von Fancy x Vans slides that do all the talking for you. Show off your style chops and pair them with a bold dress, coquettish grin, and statement shades. Nothing’s stopping you from riding off into the Manhattanhenge sunset (in an Uber, of course).
