True & Co Boss Babes: In Bed With 3 Body-Positive NYC Women, Part 1

Photo cred: Vanessa Granda

As a woman, you can probably identity yourself as most things: a sister, a mother, a wife, a friend. And while those things hold value, we believe being a woman is more than just slapping a label on yourself. It’s about being your most authentic self, to be your truest form, to stick out like a sore thumb and do the unthinkable. That’s what it means to be a woman. That’s what it means to be a Boss Babe.

So to celebrate women, we partnered up with True & Co to exemplify what it means to feel empowered in your own skin. Whether that entails teaching sex ed to the LGBT community, living a healthy lifestyle, or being your own boss, nothing is off limits. And when you allow yourself to be honest and true to your  goals, the possibilities are endless.

When you search the Internet of Ericka Hart, you’ll probably be engulfed with narratives of her empowering story. After surviving breast cancer, she decided to share her journey through powerful images and teachings where to educates others about sexual education, especially to be LGBT community. While she’s overcome a lot, we couldn’t be more proud to see how far she has come.

How do you choose to celebrate your womanhood every day?

I don’t identify as a woman, but as femme. So, celebrating femme every day looks like affirming my gender identity/expression and those of other femmes across the spectrum.

True & Co’s mission is to empower women to be the best version of themselves through their products. When do you feel the most empowered and what do you do to help fuel your self-confidence? (i.e. self-care practices, wear specific clothes, etc.)

I feel empowered pushing up against conventional beauty norms whether on my social media platforms, in a conversation, or walking down the street wearing whatever makes me happy (i.e. this super huge green faux fur coat, sheer anything, no make-up).

As a Boss Babe, you probably have a lot of cool things going on. Tell us about your current projects!

Just launched my website (really a three-year endeavor). I am a Sexuality Educator, so will be going on tour to schools across the country during 2017 (currently excepting bookings). Also, my YouTube channel answering all of your sex and sexuality questions.

What drives you to kick ass every day?

That people will be left out of critical conversations if I don’t do my part in bringing visibility to and shifting single narratives about communities of color (specifically black queer and trans people).

What advice would you give your younger self to help feel comfortable in her own skin?

With all of her concerns about the world and all of her self-doubt, she’s perfect the way she is. No need to talk to her.

screen-shot-2016-11-28-at-10-20-07-amThe girls from Spinach 4 Breakfast believe in living a wholesome, fulfilling life. Originally solely being a food blog, Maria and Alyssa Tosoni decided to transform their site into a full-blown lifestyle blog. And even though we want to recreate every recipe they post, we’re even more thrilled to see the path they’re creating for others to follow.

What does “body positive” mean to you?

For us health always comes first, along with inner self-acceptance. Then if you want to tweak your physique, exercise harder and eat healthier. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to better yourself. 🙂

How do you choose to celebrate your womanhood every day?

Maria: I embrace all my roles as a woman on a daily basis. I am a wife, a sister, and a daughter but I am also the co-founder of two businesses and have a career as a speech pathologist. I embrace when I am needed and when I need others, and am lucky to surround myself with people who support and validate my aspirations.

Alyssa: I embrace my feminine essence throughout all aspects of my day, from the work place to being a nurturer in various relationships. I honor it within myself through a meditation and yoga practice.

True & Co’s mission is to empower women to be the best version of themselves through their products. When do you feel the most empowered and what do you do to help fuel your self-confidence?

We feel the most empowered within all elements of Spinach for Breakfast. It’s our work from the recipe creation, to the food photography, to the content writing — we are really proud of that. Then the interactions we have with our followers who we’ve inspired to make healthy changes is just fuel to the Boss Babe fire.

As a Boss Babe, you probably have a lot of cool things going on. Tell us about your current projects!

We just transitioned from a food blog to a lifestyle blog, incorporating natural beauty and wellness into our content. We are excited to see Spinach for Breakfast grow with us!

What drives you to kick ass every day?

The New York City energy and hustle is a daily motivator. Also, following all the other bloggers out there who push us to constantly be better. Plus, waking up every day feeling healthy and alive makes us want to take on the world. 🙂

What advice would you give your younger self to help feel comfortable in her own skin?

You don’t always need to conform. Embrace your individuality, and don’t be afraid to be the leader.

screen-shot-2016-11-28-at-10-20-03-amWhile we don’t like to boast, we can’t help it when it comes to our very own Founder and EIC, Cyndi Ramirez. Not only has she created a lifestyle site (cough cough) by finding a void in the fashion and food world, but she’s also the First Lady of Den Hospitality, and currently working on a new venture as we speak. She’s the epitome of what it means to create the life you want and we couldn’t be more proud of her.

What does “body positive” mean to you?

Treating your body with respect in all ways — give it the pleasure it seeks but also nurture it like you would a child. Wherever your body ends up throughout this journey, let it shine and be proud of it.

How do you choose to celebrate your womanhood every day?

By taking pride in the products I use, the clothes I wear, and the work I execute. Also, I’m so lucky to constantly be surrounded by women I admire and to feature those women on this platform. I’m always celebrating all our womanhood.

True & Co’s mission is to empower women to be the best version of themselves through their products. When do you feel the most empowered and what do you do to help fuel your self-confidence?

I feel the most empowered when I accomplish a large goal. I fuel this by celebrating it — whether that’s a small or large victory — there’s no advancing without reflection and self-recognition. I try to practice this often — it usually results in a treat yo’self day.

As a Boss Babe, you probably have a lot of cool things going on. Tell us about your current projects!

You’re looking at it! TTS is my baby, one I’m really proud of. We’re excited to be partnering with brands, like True & Co, to feature women in a new light. I’m also excited to be opening Chillhouse early next year, though, it’s too soon to share exactly what it is, I’ll say stay tuned and go follow us on Instagram. I promise you need this place in your life.

What drives you to kick ass every day?

Aside from needing to pay the bills (lol), just pure enjoyment of what I’m creating. I genuinely LOVE what I do and can say it’s my dream job. Kicking ass comes naturally when you’re passionate.

What advice would you give your younger self to help her feel comfortable in her own skin?

It’s easy to compare, it’s harder to create. Want to be a certain way? Create yourself. Want to look a certain way? Create yourself. Whatever feels most like you is what you’re meant to be. Don’t look to others for approval.
