#TTSDEVOUR: The Alternative Holiday Nails Edition

Well guys, we’ve reached the end of the year — the time where we get to chill out and hang out with family, friends or any other group of people that love us (awww.)

Hopefully your shopping is complete (but if not, head to these six stores immediately) and now it’s time to treat yourself to some beauty DIYS. For this #TTSDEVOUR series, we thought we would have a little fun with nail art — because who doesn’t love crushing candy canes with matching nails and a glittery pineapple? (Please say we’re not the only ones.)

Here are five alternative holiday nail looks you can easily recreate at home and even sport into the new year.

Painting your nails red means playing it safe, especially during the holidays. Opt for a non-traditional holiday palette, pomegranate. It’s festive, unexpected, yet can easily translate well after Christmas.

DIY IT LIKE THIS:

On your natural nails, apply Zoya in Caprice or a similar shade. Apply 1 coat, then apply foil glue on the nails you want to foil. Once done, apply the double coat on the rest on the unglued nails, then apply your Ciate’s holographic foil to your accent nails. And of course, add top coat when done.

NYE is around the block, which means your nails need to rival your outfit. Have a little fun with glitter and long tips; that champagne glass demands some wow-worthy nails.

DIY IT LIKE THIS:

Buy long white matte tips (we used Morgan Mattes A Wrap to give the tips a matted finish) and glue them to your nails. Once done, paint the inside of your nails to give it that extra dynamic pop. Using the same color, draw a thin slanted line diagonally across the tips. We used ‘Stun’ by Floss Gloss. Easy breezy. No top coat needed.

Outline nails are dominating the game this year. Get literal and match those nails to everyone’s favorite candy of the season.

DIY IT LIKE THIS:

This is a trickier look to achieve on natural nails so we recommend short tips. Paint your rounded tips with Zoya Snow White or a similar color. Then take Zoya Red Door and very gently outline the nails (thin brush recommended.) On your accent nails, apply the red in a slanted manner like the picture above. Don’t forget the top coat.

Traditional green is so expected for the holidays. Take a stab at mint tones with a touch o’ gold this year. It’s the perfect holiday-into-the-new-year combo.

DIY IT LIKE THIS:

Using similar tips as “all that glitters is white,” apply two coats of Essie’s Turquoise and Caicos. Let it dry for a couple of minutes, then apply gold appliques from Nail Partner Stickers. Super simple, minty, and festive without totally reeking of holiday nails.

Clear tips are definitely having their moment in the spotlight this year. Go bold and sport these all Winter long; they’re seasonally appropriate and most definitely showstoppers.

DIY IT LIKE THIS:

Purchase clear, square tips like the ones seen here. Before glueing to your nails, use Zoya Purity or a similar color to create the wintery water drops. Freehand the drops with their brush– don’t be scared to have fun with it. It doesn’t have to be perfect to achieve the look above.
